The gorgeous young black Nokubongwa Sikhakhane (20) is living her dream of her modelling journey as she is a finalist of Miss Dasha 2022 following being at the Top Ten of Miss KwaZulu-Natal Universe 2022. Nokubongwa has been into beauty pageants since 2017 where she won Miss My Life My Future 2017. It has not been all been smooth though.

Nokubongwa was born and raised in Mbulwane a rural area in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal. She is currently studying at Umgungundlovu TVET College, Richmond campus and she is doing Public Management. Growing up, she had both parents in her life who at first were not sure of her modelling journey, until they realised how passionate she was when she won Miss My Life My Future 2017.

According to Nokubongwa, growing up was hard because her father was working in Johannesburg, Gauteng and they only saw him during the holidays. This is kind of usual for some families. A study by Pew Research Centre suggests that overall, 16% of fathers are living apart from all of their children.

“Growing up for me was good, but difficult, either way it is said that those who conquer are those who are persistence, and I am persistence and I’m proud of the person that I am today, I think the obstacles that I faced since I was a kid has brought positive impact of the person that I am today. A strong woman that inspires,” Nokubongwa expressed.

Miss Dasha South Africa helps people who can represent themselves and South Africa and end up modelling internationally. As a finalist for Miss Dasha Nokubongwa have to constantly ask people to vote for her, well it gets tiring she says. But she believes those who wish to vote for her will do so willingly. The finale is on the 5th of November 2022 at Blue Waters, and she would cheerily appreciate people to come and support her, as they can get tickets from her.

Another obstacle she has faced is getting sponsorships and donations. “I have approached many but not getting any luck in sponsorship and so my parents and sister help me cover costs for my modelling journey,” she conveyed. She overcame the obstacle by believing in herself and God.

Nokubongwa’s biggest supporter Phiwokuhle Sikhakhane (23) her sister said she’s so proud of how far her young sister has come. “I am so proud of how far she has come, which is something not easy for someone coming from underprivileged community,” she conveyed. She continued to say her sister is doing well in this journey, she’s still growing and learning a lot about modelling, and she wishes her the best.

“I know and trust that God will allow what’s best for me,” Nokubongwa said. She taught many that modelling is not all about walking on stage, but there is actually hard work and determination behind every crown.
